As the Covid-19 outbreak swirls, K.R Mangalam World School, G.K-II has taken some contingentmeasures to keep students engaged through online education and online examination. In this time of crisis, a well-rounded and effective educational practice is what is needed for the capacity-building of the young minds. Learning should not get impaired due to any reason. We are exploring the most effective e-learning applications to make learning accessible to students in the comfort and safety of their homes. The school is following a timetable which ensures that students are able to allocate adequate time to each academic subject and co-curricular activities.
Regular happiness classes are enabling students to reflect on their relationships, their feelings, thoughts, behaviour and its impact on themselves, family, society and the natural environment. These areinteresting sessions where the students are undertaking meditation, and listening to stories andtaking part in various activities. The session begins with a few minutes of apperception, followed by a story or an activity to enable ruminative discussions. The students actively participate in these interactive discourses to get a better grip over themselves and their mental functioning.
The school always cheers participation of students in competitions for their holistic development. Various Online Inter-House Competitions were conducted for the students of classes VI-VIII. Students keenly participated in numerous competitions like Article Writing, Hasya Kavita, Finger Painting, Cold Cooking, Solo Dance, Extempore etc. The competitions were a fusion of imagination, talent and creativity. The preliminary round for the same was conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2020 followed by the final round on Saturday, May 9, 2020. The students left everyone awestruck as they presented their talent so immaculately and effortlessly.
Online learning should not be limited to video lectures and written assignments. With a little out-of-the box thinking, teachers are constructing activities for the students that is both, stimulating their minds and keeping them interested. Various activities like Multiplication of Integers, Singing Activity and Poster Making Activity were conducted for the students. Teachers are encouraging their students to be active members of the class by allowing them to think on their own. They are also devoting some time to unearth their talents and interests. The more a teacher knows her students, the better she can grab their attention.
Assessment is a critical step in the learning process. It determines whether or not the learning objectivesof the course have been met. In order to assess the students’ learning, the school is conducting Online Formative Assessments in all subjects for the students of classes VI-VIII.
The parents’ feedback on these classes, activities and assessment has been very encouraging.
