As the Covid-19 outbreak swirls, K.R Mangalam World School, G.K-II has taken some contingentmeasures to keep students engaged through online education and online examination. In this time of crisis, a well-rounded and effective educational practice is what is needed for the capacity-building of the young minds. Learning should not get impaired due to any reason. We are exploring the most effective e-learning applications to make learning accessible to students in the comfort and safety of their homes. The school is following a timetable which ensures that students are able to allocate adequate time to each academic subject and co-curricular activities.

Regular happiness classes are enabling students to reflect on their relationships, their feelings, thoughts, behaviour and its impact on themselves, family, society and the natural environment. These areinteresting sessions where the students are undertaking meditation, and listening to stories andtaking part in various activities. The session begins with a few minutes of apperception, followed by a story or an activity to enable ruminative discussions. The students actively participate in these interactive discourses to get a better grip over themselves and their mental functioning.

The school always cheers participation of students in competitions for their holistic development. Various Online Inter-House Competitions were conducted for the students of classes VI-VIII. Students keenly participated in numerous competitions like Article Writing, Hasya Kavita, Finger Painting, Cold Cooking, Solo Dance, Extempore etc. The competitions were a fusion of imagination, talent and creativity. The preliminary round for the same was conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2020 followed by the final round on Saturday, May 9, 2020. The students left everyone awestruck as they presented their talent so immaculately and effortlessly.

Online learning should not be limited to video lectures and written assignments. With a little out-of-the box thinking, teachers are constructing activities for the students that is both, stimulating their minds and keeping them interested. Various activities like Multiplication of Integers, Singing Activity and Poster Making Activity were conducted for the students. Teachers are encouraging their students to be active members of the class by allowing them to think on their own. They are also devoting some time to unearth their talents and interests. The more a teacher knows her students, the better she can grab their attention.

Assessment is a critical step in the learning process. It determines whether or not the learning objectivesof the course have been met. In order to assess the students’ learning, the school is conducting Online Formative Assessments in all subjects for the students of classes VI-VIII.

The parents’ feedback on these classes, activities and assessment has been very encouraging.

Mother’s Day celebrates the glorious ideal of love and sacrifice called motherhood. It is an opportunity to salute our moms for the love, comfort and care they provide us in so many ways. To celebrate the same bond of love and affection, K.R Mangalam World School, G.K-II organized various activities to instil the importance of the day among children. The students of classes Nursery to II, exhibited immense love and gratitude by crafting hand-made cards and photo frames for their mothers. The outcome of their efforts was marvellous.

Here are some glimpses of Mother’s Day celebration where our children showcased their love for their mothers. Each card and photo frame was special and different in its own way.

Class XI session started on the 17th Of April, after students confirmed their subject choices. An online ‘Parents’ Orientation’ session was held on 16th and 17th April, where the parents were informed regarding the various subject choices available for class XI students.

This session was very edifying as it aided in solving various queries of parents. In Economics, ‘Primary Data Collection’ was taught to the students of class XI. The session included various methods used for collecting primary data, census and sample surveys. Students enthusiastically participated in the discussions pertaining to real life situations discussed by the teacher. They were informed about ‘Census of India’ which is conducted once in every 10 years.

In Mathematics, students learnt about identity function, constant function, modulus function and signum function and also, how to draw graphs related to these functions. This was a success as the students were able to find the domain, range and co-domain of these functions.

The students of class XI started with basics of Python language in Computer Science whereas class XII students learnt how to create a binary coded file, which will help them with their projects in the future

The tricks of gamete formation were shared with biology students of class XII. Political Science students of class XI learnt about the various functions of the constitution. Students are attending online classes for IP with full zeal. To keep a regular check on the students various assignments, revision sheets, PowerPoint presentations are shared with the students. Class XII students successfully appeared for the online assignment in English which enabled them to assess the performance of the students and gauge their comprehension and retention.

Subject Enrichment is a new initiative taken by the school to clarify the doubts of the students in different subjects. Online exams are also conducted to give students a hands-on of how to appear for the ‘Board Examination’.

An online webinar for the students of class XII was organized on 6 May 2020, on ‘Career Counselling and UK University offering courses of law’ by K.R.Mangalam World School, G.K II. The webinar was presided over by Mr. Jatin Chawla and Ms. Radhika, both being well-qualified and experienced speakers with more than a decade of experience in the field.

Mr. Chawla highlighted the facts that one can utilise time of the lockdown in finding out what is best for him or her. It’s the opportune period which students can capitalize on in carrying out their research about various exams and also about courses available in DU and other universities abroad. Mr. Chawla talked about career options for commerce and humanities students. Ms. Radhika focused on the UK Universities offering courses of law and business. This was very informative for the students as it cleared a lot of myths and superstitions regarding the careers abroad. The interactions gave everyone a clear perspective for the long run.

When the entire world has been caught in the grip of a fatal pandemic resulting in shutting down of real classrooms, the spirit of the educators at K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K. II has not weakened. They continue to spread the light of knowledge and understanding through their virtual school online classes. Not only this, the school is also conducting regular tests through Google forms to evaluate the comprehension and retention of the students.

The school held its first Multiple Assessment in the subject English via a Reading Activity. The students were supposed toprepare an extract of the poem, ‘The Brook’ by Alfred Tennyson. They were judged on the criteria of Expression, Voice Modulation and Fluency. This proved to be extremely thrilling as it was the first-of-its-kind test conducted in the subject.

In Hindi, interesting and informative PPTs were made for the chapters which aimed to make the class more interactive and livelier. Grammar concepts in German language were elaborately explained by the subject teacher. Students learnt to make graphs in Mathematics via a stimulating power point presentation. The beautiful integration of Art in Mathematics,was a thought-provoking concept, and fueled the inquisitiveness of the students towards it.

Students performed an activity to demonstrate the phenomenon of Condensation in Science. Artificial Intelligence, a skill-based class, has also gone down well with the students and their parents. was also introduced this week. Physical Fitness and Fine Art classes found a warm welcome amidst students. Regular assessment of Homework and assignments were done to encourage learning. Encouraging feedback and response continued to pour in to extend support and encouragement.

The students of K.R Mangalam World School, G.K-II are carrying out science experiments under the guidance of their science teachers making their homes as virtual labs!!!!

Good habits for students is key to setting them on a path for success in education. Children at a young age have incredibly absorbent brains. They remember what they are taught with clarity and their minds absorb everything much faster than they would at a later age.

Aligning with this thought, K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II conducted an activity on good habits and bad habits for the Kindergarten students. The activity was aimed at providing our tiny-tots with the opportunity to develop into a socially responsible and enlightened member of the society. While the country remains in lockdown to stem the spread of coronavirus, our young students showcased best practices to keep oneself healthy and safe, and overwhelmed us with their zealous response.

In these uncertain times safety comes first. We, at K.R Mangalam World school, G.K-II, acknowledge the importance of staying indoors and at the same time believe in moving ahead and keeping our spirits high.

Keeping this in mind, a session on good habits was conducted for the students of Class I. They were shown a video on ‘Good Habits’ which was followed by an activity wherein the students shared the various good habits they follow in everyday life. On the other hand, the students of class –II participated in English Recitation Activity on the topic, ‘Nature’.The students enjoyed learning about the Nature’s bounty and chose a variety of topics for their recitation like trees, flowers, rainbow etc. They recited the poem with confidence using voice modulation and correct intonation. The beautiful and rhythmical poems helped them to understand the importance of nature and its preservation.

Apart from conducting the scholastic activities, the school also incorporated recreational activities like Exercise, Yoga and Chess to enthuse the children with energy and enable them to work with unbridled enthusiasm.
