Workshop on “Effective Parenting”
“Your children are not your children; they are sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts.”
A workshop on “Effective Parenting” was conducted at the for all the parents of the students of classes VI to VIII on 11 February 2017 by Ms. Vichitra Dargan Anand, a psychologist from Delhi University, South Campus.
The session began with a talk on the two different kinds of parents, the ones who say “Do as I say” and the ones who say “Do as I do”. Various changes that occur in an adolescent were also discussed in detail and the parents were illuminated on how they must deal with these changes in their wards. Ms. Vichitra mainly stressed on the point that a parent must get into the shoes of their children and ‘talk it out’ to have a better understanding of their problems and life issues.
Towards the end of the session, the parents were invited to discuss the problems they face with their children and were given various possible solutions. It was an effective workshop for all the parents helping them to have a better bond with their children. We look forward to having more of such sessions on various other issues for parents, teachers as well as students.
