PEER EDUCATORS’ WORKSHOP
TOPIC: BREAKING STIGMAS OF MENTAL HEALTH
Peer education is surely the need of the hour. Every person identifies more with their own peer group and teenage is no exception to this. Adolescents often find elders authoritarian and always look forward to their peers for advice. In order to acquaint the students with this concept and prepare them as capable peer educators, a two-day workshop was attended by four students of class XI, along with the school counselor on 28-29 December 2017. Thesession was jointly organised by D.P.S, Ghaziabad and Expressions India.
It included information about various mental disorders and students were encouraged to create awareness amongst their groups and reach out to those who need help. All the participants from various schools showcased their innovation in form of dance, skit, songs, painting etc on the topic of mental health.
The efforts were well appreciated by Dr. JitenderNagpal, Psychiatrist and founder of Expressions India. Students interacted with him and discussed many of their concerns and queries. At the end the students were awarded certificates of participation.
