Commemoration Service for Nelson Mandela on his Birth Anniversary
Students of classes VIII & X made a visit to C. D. Deshmukh Auditorium and Gandhi King Plaza, Main Building, India International Centre (IIC), 40 Max Mueller Marg, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi’ on July 18th 2017. The visit was to celebrate 99th birthday of Nelson Mandela who was the first black South African President and had reigned from 1994 to 1999. This is in appreciation and celebration of the great leader in him that this day is commonly known as Mandela Day. The programme started with the songs by choirs of schools from Delhi NCR. Further, On view in the Foyer outside C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium there organised a march pass as part of taking Children to Gandhi series that brings children closer to the enduring legacy of Gandhi’s non-violent struggle for equity, justice, pluralism and sustainable development.
“Madiba and His Struggle”, an exhibition of paintings was presented by children of Bluebells School International. Mr France Morule, High Commissioner of South Africa; Shri Virendra Gupta, former Indian High Commissioner to South Africa and Shri Suhas Borker, Convener, Working Group on Alternative Strategies were the honourable chief guests of this special day.
The chief guests also had an interactive session of question round with the students from Delhi NCR on the life of Nelson Mandela and among them five best speakers were awarded with the prizes. Gaurav Mishra student of K.R.Mangalam World School, Vaishali of class VIII was one of the winners. Really, Nelson Mandela is an icon that will be celebrated throughout the world today and in the days to come.
