Cracker Free Diwali Celebrated at K.R.Mangalam World School, Vikaspuri
K.R. Mangalam World School, Vikaspuri, celebrated a clean and green Diwali with festive gusto for a fortnight. To spearhead the Diwali celebrations, a special morning assembly was organized wherein students delivered speeches on the significance of the festival and the relevance of eco-friendly celebrations.
The Primary Wing students celebrated Green Diwali. An assembly was organised in which ‘The festival of lights’ was celebrated with great fervour at the school. Tiny tots came dressed up as different characters from Ramayana. The students presented various scenes from the life of Lord Rama. The school wore a festive look with beautiful rangolis, decorated pots, diyas and lanterns adorning the reception and corridors of the school.
A seminar was conducted on Eco-Friendly Diwali for the students of classes VI to VIII by the Eco Club members, with the presentation of video on the negative effects of burning crackers causing air pollution. Students were urged to act responsibly and be sensitive towards the essence of their environment and safety of animals. Speakers apprised the audience about the adverse effects of fireworks. They promoted the use of eco-friendly colours for making ‘rangoli’. Anti-cracker campaign-rally on “Say no to crackers” covering the school premise and neighborhood areas was taken out by the students. Various other activities such as; ‘diya’ making and decoration, poster making were organised in all the classes. Diwali was also celebrated at the school by the NCC cadets and NSS volunteers.
The function ended with a message by the principal, Ms.Priya Arora, who expressed her deep concern about the environment and advised the students to celebrate Green Diwali. Students were briefed on the ill-effects of burning crackers and were urged to celebrate the festival with candles, sweets and non-polluting green crackers. She also wished for the light within everyone to shine bright.
