The Times NIE Summer Training Workshop was an extremely informative and learning experience for me. During the programme, I not only learned about how print media works but also understood what the principles and ethics of journalism are and how it is checked and cross-checked at every stage.
All senior officials of the Times of India; including the Editor, taught us how news works and what would be the future prospects of journalism as a career option and what we must do to become a journalist. We were also taught how every beat of news is different and how it is written differently in each beat to cater to the language of the reader. Particular emphasis was given to digital media and how social media platforms, like Instagram, can revolutionize media in the near future. All this insight was particularly something I would never have gotten an opportunity to learn throughout my life.
On the last day of the workshop, we were taken to the Printing Press where we were shown how the Printing Press manages to print a massive 30 lakh copies of newspaper overnight and also deliver it on time such that we can enjoy the news along with our morning tea. The huge machines and the advanced technology amazed me! It was not only a printing press but also a hub of innovation for print media where all kinds of creative minds worked together just in order to present us our daily dose of news more precisely.
We were presented a letter of recommendation by the National Editor of Times NIE, Ms.Poonam Singh, which was not only a great honour for me but also a fascinating addition to my resume.
I would like to conclude by mentioning that I had the time of my life at the workshop which would not have happened if the school hadn’t given me this opportunity. Thus I would like to express my gratitude to my Principal Ma’am and also Lekha Ma’am for encouraging me to participate.
