Questioning skills are essential to good teaching. Teachers often use questions to ensure that students are attentive and engaged, and to assess students’ understanding. What is important to note is that in addition to the intent of the question, the question itself matters. In the pursuit of the same, the teachers of K. R. Mangalam World school, Faridabad indulged themselves into various brainstorming activities organized by K.R.Mangalam World school,G.K.II headed by Mrs. Priyam Vada on ‘Questioning Skills’ on October 19, 2019 .
Questioning skills highlights the need to unleash and maximize the student’s engagement and boost achievement, the use of Mary Budd Rowe’s Wait Time when questioning is essential as it gives the teacher a chance to measure the students’ understanding. The workshop enhanced teachers’ confidence and potential and provide an excellent set of guidelines to develop good questioning techniques. It enabled teachers develop an active approach to learning ,to diagnose specific difficulties inhibiting pupil learning. It also focuses on the higher order categories of questioning to model and develop progressively more complex thinking, promoting links with other learning and across subjects, developing judgement focused thinking. The workshop encourages use of Bloom’s Taxonomy by the teachers to help them plan learning experiences, pre-planning suitable questions and lessons in the language that shifts the focus to higher level.
The teachers indulged themselves in some creative tasks as allotted by the hosts. The aim of this workshop was to enrich Teacher’s questioning skills with various creative activities which proved to be successfully accomplished.
