Since the COVID -19 pandemic has disrupted the normal lifestyle of people across the globe, the virtual world has come to the rescue. Amongst many institutions schools also shifted their base to virtual platforms to conduct classes online.
At K. R Mangalam World School, G.K-II there are several ways teachers are utilizing the technology and resources already available to support online learning and ensuring students still receive a quality education. They are playing a pivotal role in becoming designers and active creators of activities for the students while putting technology in the hands of students in a constructive way for knowledge creation and not just for passive consumption. Students are taking the initiative and developing their own voice as they learn through activities, working on their own and also in collaboration with peers. Teachers are constantly encouraging their students to be active members of the class by allowing them to think and perform on their own.
Introducing an online activity to a class offers many benefits to students. With a little out-of-the box thinking, teachers are constructing activities for the students that is both, stimulating their minds and keeping them engaged. Various mathematical concepts were introduced using activities in classes VI-VIII. The students not only enjoyed doing the paper cutting activity but they were amazed as they were able toderive formulas on their own. In class VI, comparing, addition and subtraction of fractions was introduced to the students with the help of an activity. In class VII, some laws of exponents were discussed using paper folding method. In class VIII, students derived various identities using the activity method.
Students enthusiastically participated in the activitiesand submitted their work on MS Teams.
