The science department of K.R Mangalam World School, G.K-II is focusing on teaching methodology inculcating a ‘learning by observing and doing’ approach during the online teaching sessions.
With limited sources and facilities- both in terms of materials as well as exploration of the environment , the teachers have tried to conduct simple activities during the course of teaching of each science chapter.
Students of classes III , IV and V – have not just viewed videos and interesting power points – they have also conducted activities like germination of gram seeds and recording their observations in the sheets sent by the teachers. They have observed the edible parts of plants like roots ,leaves and stems that store food in them at home and identified them after learning about the same . Conduction of water through stems and vegetative propagation in potato was understood by doing and observing the results by students.
Active involvement of students at various levels has significantly contributed towards the teaching –learning online experience.
As the pandemic continues, the teachers at K. R Mangalam World School G.K-II have taken to methods of learning in science which would not only enhance the skills of the students but also bringing out their inner creativity.
Integrating these skills with virtual learning, students of class VI understood the concept of weaving using two or more strips of coloured paper and made beautiful colourfuldesigns and patterns. In continuation, students also learnt about making yarn from cotton in the lesson ‘Fibre to Fabric’.
To understand the secretions of glands and digestion of food, videos and power point presentations aroused the interest in the students of class VII to learn about the complete process by visual aids.
Wonderful activities on electrostatic forces were explained and thus performed by the students of class VIII using a balloon, plastic scale and pieces of paper.
