World Cosmonautics Day Celebrations
The students of K.R. Mangalam World School, Gurugram got a unique opportunity to celebrate remarkable achievements in Space at the Nehru Planetarium. The program was organized by Space India in collaboration with the Russian Centre of Science and Culture. The program celebrates Yuri Gagarin’s milestone travel to space, as well as those breaking of gravity barriers by Valentina Tereshkova the first woman Cosmonaut and Rakesh Sharma, India’s first cosmonaut.The first and the bravest breaking of this barrier took place on the 12th of April 1961 when Gagarin’s Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth. On 12th April 2018 at the sky theater of Nehru Planetarium SPACE India celebrated this and later Space achievements.The event also marked the beginning of Global Astronomy Month celebrated by Astronomers Without Borders (AWB), worldwide.
The students learned about space missions and their achievements through an interactive presentations and Documentary screening. They enjoyed various Hands-On-Activities to mark this day as the achievement of Indo Russian Space victory. Students also wrote messages for their favorite Astronauts.
