K.R. Mangalam World School, Paschim Vihar conducted a virtual workshop for Nursery parents on 1 October, 2020 so as to share the methodology of teaching reading skills to the little learners. The workshop provided an opportunity to show parents how they can support and expand learning at home. We at KRM believe that when a teacher and a parent play an active role in a child’s education, they develop a strong bridge for his/her holistic growth and development.
Our Pre- Primary coordinator Ms. Ramnik Kaur welcomed the parents and briefed them about the subject of the event. Parents became a part of their child’s classroom and participated whole- heartedly in their ward’s learning technique. This workshop gave parents an insight to observe and understand how early reading abilities are developed in nursery under Jolly phonic program and how they can support their child at home for the same. With the skills and strategies learnt during the session, parents will be able to help children grow in self esteem, develop good social skills and an interest in reading.
The teachers presented the lesson on Reading Skills in which activity based methodology of teaching two and three letter words was showcased. The teachers recapitulated the letters with their phonic sounds and explained the blending of letters to make new words. Several fun-filed activities were showed to the parents that can be implemented to make the learning more interesting and effective for the children like Puppet play, writing in flour or in sand, Clay moulding, Origami craft, Rhymes, and Riddles. Using words in simple sentences was also described by the teachers with the help of different teaching aids. Parents actively participated and expressed their keen interest in all the activities and enjoyed being the kid in the classroom.
The session proved a great platform that offered a seamless and integrated experience for all.
