INDIA TURNS 70

We would be celebrating 70th year of our Independence. It’s time that we the students of the present generation should never forget the turmoil that our ancestors went through to make our country independent. We must be grateful to all those who laid down their lives for their motherland. I salute all the jawans who guard our borders tirelessly conquering all the adversities of nature.

We need to discuss and debate the learnings of history to ensure that we, as a nation do learn from our past mistakes so that we are able to keep our freedom secure.

The social, political and religious stability in the country is increasingly under attack and same disruptive outside forces threatens to undo the gains and magical charm of our secular , inclusive and democratic India.

Even after completing 70 years of Independence, our country still faces major challenges related to its diverse social fabric. The reservation policy followed in India, is particularly responsible for pushing aside merit and giving caste preferences an upper hand.

Political parties in India to play a major role in furthering such social and economic divide by encouraging the system of reservation. It is time that India breaks out of this narrow mindset and charts out a different programme which allows merit to rise above all differences. This positive discrimination is now hurting the majority.

It is high time that meritorious candidates should not be discriminated on the pretext of reservation especially with the motive of improving the vote bank. This will help in the advancement and growth of opportunities in all sectors ranging from educational institutions to administrative spheres.

If we dream of a safe, progressive and healthy democratic nation we must formulate a new policy which guarantees equality to all and recognizes the meritorious without discrimination. If we do believe in uplifting the marginalized the government must provide adequate avenues in the field of education to bring them at par with the mainstream rather than resorting to reservation as a solution to the problem.

I love my country and wish that it becomes a super power. A country where citizens are endowed with perfect blend of spiritual and scientific approach . India has advanced a lot through the last 70 years and has become a force to reckon with on the world stage. Yet, the country is still bequeathed with several shortcomings that have limited its full potential. Some of the challenges that India faces today are poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, unsafe drinking water, communal disharmony, farmer suicides and rampant corruption.

Although several positive policies and programmes have been introduced to improve the situation yet a lot needs to be done especially in the rural areas. Communities as well as political parties must come together to make the dream of our founding fathers, a reality.

We at our school K.R.Mangalam through theme- based assemblies and activities are sensitized regarding burning issues that our country faces. This is done with a clear motive of finding out the causes, effects and remedies to these issues.

In these seventy years India has achieved remarkable progress in the field of scientific development. Technology has now become a key word of every household. Outlook and values of people have gone a tremendous change due to technological advancements. It is heartening to see that we,as students are exposed to a these advances which have helped us in changing our perspectives. Present generation of students have become critical thinkers and innovators. We hope that when we grow up as adults we would take India to greater heights.

Our country has exhibited great prowess to the world especially in its space programmes. The Chandrayaan Mission (launched in October 21, 2008) and Mangalyaan Mission (launched in November 5, 2013) are particularly noteworthy. India has also created a niche for itself by developing several space programmes and successfully launching numerous commercial satellites. The contribution of ISRO in various space exploration successes is worth appreciating. My school has also started astronomy classes so that we can gain knowledge of the subject and further our interest in this field.
