How to Teach Kids the Art of Managing Their Emotional Reactions

Emotion is the one thing that separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom. Even though plenty of animals, too, have emotions, none has the ability to express and show the same the way humans do. Emotions are nothing but a certain chemical reaction in the brain of humans, and it helps in the overall development of the human brain in many ways. Researchers have suggested that sometimes, emotional quotient plays a more critical role in augmenting the power to analyze and comprehend than the intelligence quotient. Hence, no one can deny that emotional development is also important for character building and holistic development of children.

However, random temper and vehement emotional reactions are not considered a rational way of behaving, and theseoften suggest that the kid is outrageous and undisciplined. Studies have also revealed that children, who fail to keep their temper and emotional reactions within limits are often those who fail to adapt to the ever-changing surroundings and foster a mind, less adaptive to variations. This is why we, at K.R. Mangalam World School, positioned among the leading schools in faridabad, believe it is vital to ensure that kids are taught the art of managing their emotional reactions at the rightage so that they know how to take control of their temper and random outbursts of emotional reactions, whenever required.

Patience is the key

Patience is the only thing that can help your child be calm and understanding. Teach your child to have patience, no matter what. If something is bothering him/her, ask your kid to consider the same with patience and help him/her to analyze the entire situation. Jumping to conclusions without thinking about the consequences often leads the children to act randomly.  Let them understand that both evens and odds are parts of life, and an exhausting expression or reaction to either of these is never a rational solution.

Be an example

Children learn by imitating their parents. To kids, parents remain their idols, and mostly, the little ones follow the ways their parent talk, walk, and behave. So, when you are in front of your child, keep a watch over your behavior because you might be impacting your child forever. Adults often express their fury or temper in front of their kids without realizing that the kids would imitate the same and when they do so, parents get taken by surprise, not realizing that the very behavior was just a repetition of their own conduct. Hence, keep your emotions under control, and your child would automatically learn to keep the lows and highs under control.

Avoid saying yes to everything

Let ‘no’ be a part of your kid’s life, as well. Studies have revealed that when children get used to a yes for every demand, they forget to accept the ‘no’ as well. Surely you need not be harsh on your kids, but you can always let them understand that all demands and requests cannot be met every time. A child, who knows that a ‘no’ is as probable as a ‘yes’ is often found to be less prone to throwing tantrums than the ones who only want to hear a yes.

We, at K.R. Mangalam World School, positioned among the leading top 10 schools in Faridabad very well understand how difficult it is to bring up the young minds in the right way. But when it comes to instilling the positive behavior and attitude in children, we believe it is of utmost importance to teach them to keep hold of their emotional reactions. This is vital to ensure that they don’t have to suffer owing to theirown abrupt emotional outbursts. And to make them happen, it is necessary that the kids are provided with enough emotional nourishment and the right kind of atmosphere. After all, if we want our young buds to bloom into beautiful flowers tomorrow, it is essential to ensure that they grow emotionally healthy and happy.
